Hair Growth Cycle
The stages of hair growth and shedding are explained below to help you understand the process.
Anagen
The Anagen stage, also referred to as the growth phase, typically lasts between 2 and 7 years. The longer this phase lasts, the thicker and longer hair will grow.
Catagen
The Catagen stage, or transitional stage, lasts approximately 1-2 weeks. During this time, the hair bulb/root shrinks and detaches from the dermal papilla.
Telogen
The Telogen stage is the resting phase and typically lasts 2-3 months. 10-15% of your hair is in this phase at any given time. As its name implies, this phase sees the hair resting in the follicle but showing no sign of growth.
Exogen
The Exogen stage is the new hair growth phase. On average, individuals shed 100-150 hair per day during this phase, as the old hair falls out to allow for growth of new hair from deep in the follicle.

So, you think you are losing your hair. What are the first steps to take?
The most common cause of hair loss among men in Miami is androgenic alopecia, a genetic, hormone-induced condition which is progressive and often hereditary.
Androgenic Alopecia:
Although the problem is most prevalent for males, it affects women as well, although in different ways. While men tend to develop bald spots and a horseshoe pattern of hair at the sides and back of the head, women will usually experience diffused hair fall and are troubled by thinning hair or a more visible scalp. In many cases, women notice this change after childbirth or as they begin menopause, due to hormonal changes taking place within their body.
Understandably, most individuals who suffer from androgenic alopecia hope to find a fast, effective solution for their thinning hair. Luckily, as a result of advanced technology, you can now achieve flawless, natural-looking results which are virtually scar-less. However, to achieve this goal, it is crucial to entrust a qualified technician, as only an expert in hair loss for Miami men can deliver high-end results.
The truth about hair loss
If you’re experiencing an increase in hair fall, you may be curious about its cause. Unfortunately, there are many myths regarding the origins of hair loss, such as the notion that frequently brushing hair or wearing a hat will cause baldness. These claims are incorrect, as the hair that falls out when you pull on, rub, or wash your hair was ready to fall out regardless of whether you wore a hat, or how frequently you brushed your hair. Instead, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a type of androgen hormone, is responsible, as it regulates hair growth and sex drive. A higher androgen level in the hair follicles shortens the growth phase of the cycle which stunts growth, replacing naturally shed hairs with thinner ones.

Telogen (TE)
After androgenic alopecia, Telogen effluvium (TE) is the second most prevalent form of hair loss affecting our clients. This condition causes hair to appear weaker and occasionally, may result in rapid hair fall and thinning. Though dramatic and troubling, this problem is usually temporary. Multiple factors are responsible for TE, including physical or mental stress caused by traumatic situations, deprivation dieting, surgery, emotional trauma or fear. In addition, some medications, including antidepressants, are believed to be linked to temporary hair loss. Cancer treatments often affect the hair and skin because they contain rapidly growing cells. This results in temporary hair fall out; however, immediate changes are evident when the therapy is discontinued. Vitamin deficiencies may also cause poor hair growth, and many herbal, nutritional supplements are available to promote healthy hair such as Omega A, Iron, Silica, and Biotin. Certain hairstyles including tight braids or hair extensions may also cause hair loss as they put persistent pressure on the hair. This is known as traction alopecia and may or may not be permanent.
