Miami FUE : How Long Will My Procedure Last?

The key to hair transplant permanence

Miami FUE – Here’s Why It Works

When planning a cosmetic procedure like FUE in Miami, our patients have many common and important questions.

Hair transplant comes at a significant cost ,and it’s fair to ask, ‘how long will the results last?” after all, most people would prefer not to have to undergo the procedure repeatedly. The results are advertised as permanent, but what does that really mean?

Sort for follicular unit excision, FUE allows the hair transplant surgeon to take individual hair grafts from one location on the scalp and transplant them to another. The hairs are extracted with a tiny, rotary punch device and typically use pneumatic suction and pressure to assist with rapid relocation.

The back and sides of the head are where denser, DHT resistant hairs are typically found in men suffering from pattern baldness. Because these hairs are immune to effects of the hormone that causes androgenic alopecia, they’ll usually stay in place long after the hair at the crown has fallen out. It’s that resilience that makes them ideally suited to relocation at the top of the head and hairline.

What Is DHT And How Does It Affect Hair’s Longevity?

Dihydrotesterone is an androgen which is produced as a by-product of the hormone, testosterone. It’s the primary causefor progressive, pattern hair loss in men and affects women as well. In females, the pattern of shedding due to DHT is usually more diffused throughout the scalp without separate balding and ‘safe’ zones. Therefore, it’s trickier, (but not impossible) to restore hair fullness using FUE for women. In males, that dense, DHT resistant hair that remains in the safe zone is the key to hair transplant permanence.

If You Have A Hair Transplant Procedure, Will You Need Another?

It’s fair to say that the results of FUE in Miami are permanent. Our success rates for lasting restoration results are very high. Once the hair has been carefully implanted in its new location, it will continue to grow for the natural life of the follicle, which is often decades.
Grafts heal and are nourished through healthy blood flow in the scalp. The results will take many months to appear, so patience is required. Between 9-12 months later, full, lustrous hair growth is usually enjoyed.

Here’s Why Results Can Change Even Though The Transplanted Hair Is Permanent

Technically, you could require another procedure to maintain your full hair result, and that depends on your situation. Progressive hair loss moves faster in some people than others. It can also be unpredictable. Your hair transplant surgeon will advise you not to have surgery too young before your pattern and rate of loss are established. Sometimes the native (non-transplanted) hairs on the crown will continue to shed, and that creates new thin areas. Over time, especially if you had a transplant early, you may require another session to fill in the scalp. Luckily, a patient can typically expect to wait 10 years or more before changes necessitate a touch-up.
